Hair Growth Phases

Hair develops through three phases of hair growth: Anagen, Catagen, Telogen. Only during the Anagen growing phase does the hair follicle react to the laser light. The goal in hair removal is for laser light to penetrate to the depth of the hair follicle during the Anagen phase to achieve long-term results.

Anagen:

The growth phase of the hair cycle during which new hair is formed. This is the active phase of hair growth cycle in which the hair bulb is intact.

Catagen:

A transitional phase of the hair cycle between growth and resting of the hair follicle.

Telogen:

The resting phase of the hair growth cycle. Hair will fall out or be pushed out of the follicle by a new Anagen growing hair.
